Our GPS took us  through the back roads and we stumbled across this beautiful church. Another one of those accidental finds! We do not have much information on the church itself as its website is down. However it was well worth the photo opportunity.

Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre was established to provide a world-class destination for the appreciation of historic aircraft. They are trying to restore the planes to working condition wherever possible. One of the most cinematic and dramatic museums I have been to with donations from Sir Peter Jackson’s own collection of WW1 aircraft and artifacts. Weka Workshop and Wingnut Films are also sponsors, all of whom were involved in the  “Lord of the Rings Trilogy”.

A historic trip on the Wellington Cable Car. For over a hundred years passengers have enjoyed the dramatic views of our growing cityscape and the surrounding hills that define Wellington’s harbour. It offers a charming escape from the busy city streets to the tree lined walkways of the Botanic Gardens.

The Shrine of Remembrance is Victoria’s largest and most visited war memorial of National Significance. It is a beautiful, historical and memorable experience for all. Be sure to try an ANZAC biscuit.

To preserve the upper structure and parklands and gain more display space, a huge engineering endeavor was undertaken to expand underground. A time-lapse movie of this is displayed onsite.

Cornwall Park
May 102016

Located in the heart of Auckland this vast parkland is a real treat. The roaming animals add a warmth to the land and make you feel far from city life. There are family facilities including BBQ’s and picnic areas.

The park is renowned for its landscape design and wide variety of mature trees. It is centered on a volcanic cone, One Tree Hill, with many interesting geological features. A pre-European Maori fortification (pa) was built on the cone, many features of which can still be seen.

Bastion Point
April 72016

Beautiful 360 degree views over Auckland from the monument.

In 1885 the New Zealand Government built a military outpost at Kohimarama, or Bastion Point, because of its commanding strategic position overlooking the Waitemata Harbour.

The point is the location of the Memorial for the first Labour Prime Minister of New Zealand Michael Joseph Savage (23 March 1872 – 27 March 1940). He is generally regarded as one of New Zealand’s greatest and most revered Prime Ministers.
